Straightforward answers to the questions we hear most often.
What is credfix and how does it work?
credfix is a platform that acts as a neutral bridge between lenders and borrowers in financial distress. We help borrowers settle outstanding loans, navigate legal notices, stop recovery harassment, and rebuild their credit scores. Our AI assistant Risi provides personalised guidance, while Neytra filters harassment calls. Lenders benefit by recovering dues faster and with less legal friction.
How does loan settlement work in India?
Loan settlement — also called One Time Settlement (OTS) — is an agreement between the borrower and lender to close a loan by paying a lump sum that is less than the total outstanding amount. The lender agrees to waive a portion of the principal, interest, or penalties. Settlement is typically offered when the borrower genuinely cannot repay the full amount.

Does loan settlement affect CIBIL score?
Yes, settlement negatively affects your CIBIL score. The account is marked "Settled" instead of "Closed", which signals to future lenders that you did not repay in full. However, settling is better than leaving a loan unpaid entirely. Your score can recover over 2–3 years with consistent, responsible credit behaviour.

What should I do if I receive a legal notice from a bank?
Do not ignore the notice. Read it carefully to identify the type — demand notice, Section 138 (cheque bounce), pre-arbitration notice, or Section 25 notice. You typically have 15–30 days to respond depending on the notice type. Acknowledge receipt in writing, consult a legal advisor, and if willing to settle, initiate negotiation with the lender through a formal written response.

Can recovery agents visit my home?
Yes, recovery agents can visit, but only between 7 AM and 7 PM. They must carry an authorisation letter from the lender. They cannot threaten, abuse, or use force. Visits outside permitted hours, any form of intimidation, or contacting your family or employer without consent violate RBI Fair Practices Code.

What is Neytra?
Neytra is credfix's call protection feature. It monitors and filters harassment calls from recovery agents and lenders, helping borrowers exercise their RBI-granted rights without being subjected to hostile conversations. Neytra creates a documented record of calls, which is useful if you need to file a complaint.
What is Risi?
Risi is credfix's AI assistant. Risi helps borrowers understand their financial situation, evaluate settlement options, draft responses to legal notices, and navigate recovery agent interactions with clear, step-by-step guidance.
What happens when my loan becomes NPA?
A loan becomes a Non-Performing Asset (NPA) when you have not paid EMIs for 90 consecutive days. Once classified NPA, the lender may begin legal proceedings, assign recovery agents, and report the status to credit bureaus — which severely impacts your CIBIL score. However, NPA classification can be reversed by clearing all overdue amounts.

How long does it take to improve CIBIL score after settlement?
Expect 18–36 months to significantly improve your CIBIL score after settlement. The "Settled" remark stays on your credit report for 7 years, but its impact reduces as you build positive credit history. Consistent repayment of new credit (secured cards, small loans) accelerates recovery.
